Leanne Branton gives us a glimpse inside the life of a three-time Dentistry Scotland Awards winner.

What got you into dentistry?

To be honest I kind of fell into dentistry and I’m very glad I did! I always liked the science subjects at school and knew I wanted to work helping people, so dentistry just felt like a natural progression.

What do you like most about it?

The patient contact is still my favourite part. I love building bonds with my patients and watching them and their families grow.

How do you see the future of dentistry in Scotland evolving?

Like most dentists I am a little unsure. I hope the NHS will continue to play a part in providing vital healthcare for our patients. I also hope we remain with fee per item, although I think we would benefit widely from streamlining the treatment options available.

Have you had any unusual experiences in dentistry?

I was extremely lucky to visit Peru with Vine Trust a few years ago, and I suppose providing dentistry on the Amazon could certainly be classed as unusual.

How do you unwind outside of dentistry?

I have two small boys – I come to work to unwind!

Where’s your favourite holiday destination?

I love Italy – I think it is a beautiful country and the food can’t be beaten.

What’s your favourite film and TV programme?

My favourite film has to be Some Like it Hot; I know it’s an oldie but it always makes me smile.

At the moment, I am loving the TV series Billions with Damien Lewis and Paul Giamatti.

What’s your favourite meal?

One that’s cooked for me!

What’s your favourite book?

My guilty pressure is trashy chick lit novels.

What’s your favourite sport?

I’m a rugby girl.

What kind of music do you listen to?

I tend to just listen to the radio.
