A new opportunity has opened for a senior dental professional from Scotland to join the GDC’s council from 1 October 2018.
The council, which is made up of six professional members and six lay members, is responsible for setting the regulator’s strategy and direction.
Around seven in 10 people visit the dentist each year in the UK and the GDC’s primary purpose is to protect the safety of those patients and to maintain public confidence in dental services.
In 2017 the GDC launched Shifting the balance, which set out its ambitious vision to reform dental regulation, which aimed to improve the regulatory system for patients and dental professionals.
GDC Chair, William Moyes, said: ‘This is an interesting time for the GDC as we continue to press ahead with the Shifting the balance reforms.
‘I look forward to finding the right person to help us take forward this work.’
Due to the council’s current composition, and the statutory requirement to have a mix of dental professional and lay members from across the four nations, this vacancy is for a dental professional who lives or works, wholly or mainly, in Scotland.
The closing date for applications is 5pm on Friday 13 April.
